What we work on.
General repair on daily drivers, work vans and high-mileage cars — the same two bays, the same hands, since 1989. If what you need is not listed here, call and ask.
Oil & filter changes
Oil and filter service on most makes. The ProLine 5W-20 and 5W-30 is on the shelf behind the counter, not on order.
Brakes
Pads, rotors and brake faults — including the ones another shop could not put right.
Mufflers & exhaust
As the sign on our wall has said for years: we install quality AP mufflers and pipes.
Tires & tire pressure
Pressure checks and tire work in the bay. Tires racked along the back wall.
Transmission & fluid service
Fluid service done here, not sent out. Honda ATF DW-1, ATF WS, ATF+4 and brake fluid on the shelf.
Lighting & electrical faults
Headlights that keep blowing, wiring faults, and the electrical problems that keep coming back.
Diagnosis on high-mileage cars

Duk Hy Kim. Everyone calls him Mr. Kim.
He is the mechanic as well as the owner, and he has run the same shop on the same street for thirty-seven years — long enough that customers write sentences like “I came here during my high school years” and “my whole family — grandparents, parents — comes here.”

Do I need an appointment?
There is no booking system. Call (847) 967-9641 or come to the shop during opening hours — 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday.
What time does the shop open?
7:00 AM Monday through Friday, closing at 6:00 PM. Closed Saturday and Sunday. Opening at seven means you can drop a car off before work.
Will I get a price before the work is done?
Yes. Every job is quoted before the work starts. A lot of people feel awkward calling just to ask what something costs; most have found that one call settles it.
